Willow Rising's 3^rd Annual Jeans for Justice: Threads of Empowerment

Our Jeans for Justice Fashion Show takes place in April for Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This Awareness Event was created in honor of the international Denim Day movement. In 1992, a young 18-year-old woman in Italy was raped by her 45-year-old driving instructor. After the original conviction, the verdict was overturned when the Italian Supreme Court stated that the woman’s jeans were “too tight”. She must have helped the man take them off, implying consent. Since the 90's, women around the world have worn jeans on Denim Day, which falls on the last Wednesday in April, to stand in solidarity, in protest of the ruling.
